Something for everyone will be the theme for the 1981 Georgia Music Festival, scheduled for September 19-27. The fourth annual event, previously known as Georgia Music Week, has expanded its focus to a greater statewide participation and coordination.
The festival also recently unveiled its new logo, designed by Atlanta musician and artist Steve Sherrill, which graphically includes the first four notes of “Georgia On My Mind”, the official state song.
The growth in the past three years of the Senate Music Industry Committee, which sponsors the festival, is indicative of the response and support provided by the music community, state and local governments, and private industry: Gov. George Busbee’s office, Lt. Gov. Zell Miller, and the state legislature have all been very vocal supporters of the Committee, which is chaired by Senator Richard Greene. Private business contributions include donations from the Brown and Williamson Company and C&S Bank to help fund the Georgia Public Television broadcasts of the statewide talent contest finals in Macon on Friday, Sept. 25, and the Georgia Hall of Fame Awards in Atlanta on Saturday, Sept. 26.
